What is PicoSure pro?

The PicoSure Pro is a laser device designed for treating pigmentary conditions and overall skin revitalization, with the added capability of tattoo removal.

How does it work?

The device delivers 755nm energy in picoseconds, which is so quick that it spares the skin from high thermal damage while optimally targeting unwanted pigment, wrinkles, acne scars, and pores with less downtime than traditional lasers. It has 1 Zoom handpiece (2-6mm) and 4 fixed handpieces (5, 6, 8, 10mm) with adjustable fluence for customizable treatments. PicoSure Pro uses primarily photomechanical action and delivers ultra-short picosecond pulses of energy. Energy is delivered so quickly (in a trillionth of a second) that it vibrates and shatters the unwanted pigment and tattoo ink into tiny particles that are more easily eliminated by the body’s natural detoxification system. This is a very different approach compared to traditional lasers, which use photothermal action; relying solely on heat to break up unwanted melanin. Less heat translates to less tissue damage and discomfort.

PicoSure Pro’s advanced technology spares the skin from high thermal damage while optimally targeting the chromophore for better clearance in fewer treatments.

There is typically minimal to no downtime with PicoSure Pro treatment. Patients may experience temporary redness and swelling at the treatment site. The redness typically resolves itself in a couple of hours following procedure. Unwanted pigment may darken over the next 24 hours before fading away.

The medical aesthetician or nurse will first cleanse and numb the treatment site with topical lidocaine for 15 minutes to help minimize discomfort.

The larger treatment areas are divided into quadrants using a white pencil to ensure the laser is distributed precisely, effectively and efficiently. 

During treatment, a slight snapping sound will be heard as the laser passes over the treatment area. Patients may feel some mild discomfort.

To calm the skin following laser procedure and to expedite recovery, we apply a hydrating silk mask for 10-15 minutes, followed by moisturizer and sunscreen application to end the treatment. 

Most patients will need about 3-6 sessions at 4-week intervals to fully address their skin concerns and for the best results. Depending on the severity and forms of hyperpigmentation, more treatments may be required. Patients may begin to notice some improvements in as little as a few weeks after one treatment.
Total treatment time (including numbing and mask application) is about 30-45 minutes.
There is typically very minimal downtime with the PicoSure Pro treatment. Avoid strenuous activities for the first 24 hours. Make-up can be applied in four hours following the procedure. It’s important to avoid sun exposure and ensure proper sun protection and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher. This helps to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and recurrence of pigmentation.

Most patients don’t experience pain. While some may have read this treatment requires pain medication, they quickly learn this is completely unnecessary when treated by a proficient technician.   Most liken the experience to a gentle “sparkling” sensation – some have even described Ultherapy to be similar to the micro-explosions of “pop rocks” candies.

All skin types can be treated. Good candidates for Ultherapy™ are healthy but with the skin starting to sag or feel less firm. Ultherapy™ does not require any preparation for treatment.

What to expect?
